Player Eligibility for Wild
Card
Some players may be ineligible
to participate in the wild card tournament. Some exceptions may exist to that
rule. AVPNext will determine the players who are exceptions. When referencing
the “top” players, AVPNext is referring to AVP entry points, which can be found
on the AVP website, posted after each main draw. The most current entry points
will be used to determine eligibility, this means that a player could be ineligible
one week, then eligible the next week-based on their performance on the AVP
Tour. All eligibility is based on individual points, not team points.
· All participants must be legal residents of the United States.
· All participants must show valid identification at
registration and check in on the day of the event.
· Any players participating in an AVPNext wild card
tournament must adhere to the eligibility guidelines for an AVP qualification
tournament or main draw tournament (subject to verification by AVPNext and wild
card tournament director). Players must be either (1) a U.S. citizen; or (2) a
permanent resident of the United States who legally resides in the U.S. on an
annual basis.
· All players participating in an AVPNext wild card
tournament MUST be able to sign the AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Player Agreement
if they are awarded the wild card into the AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tournament.
· All teams who wish to participate in an AVPNext wild card
tournament must be AVPNext members and provide verification of eligibility.
· No player ranked in the top 16 on the AVP tour entry point
list may participate in a wild card tournament.
· For the wild cards awarded to an AVP main draw with 32
teams, players ranked in between 17th and 40th on the
AVP tour entry points list are not allowed to participate in the wild card
tournament; unless they participate with a player who is not ranked in the top
40 at the time of the registration deadline for the wild card tournament.
o In addition, that
player ranked between 17th and 40th, who participates with a player not in the top 40, is
locked into playing with that partner (or a new partner ranked the same or
lower than the rank of their partner for the wild card tournament) in the main
draw or qualifier associated with the wild card tournament if they do not win
the wild card. This is the anti-double dipping rule.
· For the wild cards awarded to an AVP main draw with 24
teams, players ranked in between 17th and 32nd on the
AVP tour entry points list are not allowed to participate in the wild card
tournament; unless they participate with a player who is not ranked in the top
32 at the time of the registration deadline for the wild card tournament.
o In addition, that
player ranked between 17th and 32nd, who participates with a player not in the top 32, is
locked into playing with that partner (or a new partner ranked the same or
lower than the rank of their partner for the wild card tournament) in the main
draw or qualifier associated with the wild card tournament if they do not win
the wild card. This is the antidouble dipping rule.
· Once a player determines, by residence, that the player is
participating in a particular zone, the player is not allowed to participate in
wild card tournaments in other zones. Should a player choose to participate out
of his or her region, the player forfeits the right to participate in his or
her own zone. Participating out of zones requires approval from the AVPNext
office, and proof of residence in that zone.
· The winning team earns the wild card as a team for winning
(coming in first place) in the wild card tournament. If the team decides to not
participate as a team any longer, for any reason including injury, the team
forfeits the wild card. If the team ends up earning entry into the main draw
via some other method (e.g.,through ranking), the team forfeits the wild card.
In the event that the winning team forfeits the wild card, the wild card will
be awarded to the second place team in the wild card tournament. In this instance,
the same guidelines outlined above apply to the second place team. In the event
that the second place team forfeits the wild card, the wild card will not
be passed down to another team.
Clarification on who is eligible for the AVP Wildcard Tournament
in Coney Island Aug. 18-19:
In order to avoid any confusion about who is eligible to
play in the Coney Island Wildcard tournament we have come up with the following
Guidelines.
The contact that EEVB has with the AVP includes the following line:
"Once a player determines, by residence, that the player is participating in a particular zone, the player is not allowed to participate in wild card tournaments in other zones. Should a player choose to participate out of his or her region, the player forfeits the right to participate in his or her own zone. Participating out of zones requires approval from the AVPNext office, and proof of residence in that zone."
In order to allow as many players as possible to compete and yet keep it as a regional event, players must reside in the following AVPNext zones:
Players who do not have permanent resident status in one of these zones
will not be eligible to compete, even if their partner is eligible.
Proof of residency will be required for all players. If we are not sure where you live you may be required to show proof of residency. Acceptable forms of ID are:
If you do not live in one of these zones and do not have proof of such
residency that you can show Saturday morning at check in you will not be
eligible to play. Please feel free to call me if you have any questions.
